Filterless or Filter chimney – Which one should you buy?
Filterless vs Filter chimney – which is better for Indian Cooking?
Choosing the right Chimney can be confusing with options like baffle filter, mesh filters , filterless chimneys and auto clean chimneys. Lets Compare, to have a better Idea to help you decide.
1.Mesh Filters :
A mesh filter chimney uses multiple layers of Aluminium or stainless steel mesh to trap oil and grease particles.
How it works:
Smoke passes through several mesh layers – Then the oil particles get stuck in between the fine holes – once the oil gets filtered through the mesh , clean air passes through the duct.
Advantages:
· Easy on the pocket
· It’s a simple technology
· Can be removed easily for cleaning\
Limitations:
· Indian cooking leads to clogging of the Mesh very easily
· It requires Frequent Cleaning
· The Suction Power gets hampered and reduced due to clogging of Mesh
· Cleaning the mesh is a Time consuming process
Expert Insight:
Mesh filter chimneys were popular 10-12 years ago. These are traditional chimney filters and are quite affordable. However today’s Cooking makes these filter less relevant as they clog very fast.
2. Baffle Filters:
A baffle filter chimney uses Curved Stainless Steel plates arranged in a panel structure to trap the oil and grease. These are also primary Set of Filters .
How it Works:
While cooking , the smoke flows and passes through multiple curved Panels- the oil and grease changes direction repeatedly – Heavy grease particles separate and get collected in the oil tray- lastly the clean air passes through the duct.
Advantages:
· It is better for Indian Cooking and Indian kitchens.
· It is more durable than mesh filters
· Cleaning required is less frequent compared to mesh
· It has a stronger suction performance
Limitations:
· It still requires manual cleaning , it becomes a tedious process as cleaning the curved panels becomes time consuming.
· Oil collection tray needs to be cleaned regularly
· If not serviced periodically, the suction drops.
· Baffle filter technology is also now considered to be a bit outdated compared to newer filterless chimneys.
3. Filterless Chimneys:
A Filterless Chimney uses a centrifugal Blower System And specially Designed airflow path to separate oil and grease particles from Smoke.
How it works:
When smoke enters the chimney, the powerful motor creates a high speed rotation. This rotation is at such a speed that the air rotates inside the chamber. The oil and grease particles separate due to centrifugal force, which in turn collects the oil in the tray and clean air exits through the duct.
Advantages:
· As no physical filters are blocking the suction of the chimney, the suction power remains consistent for a longer period of time.
· There is absolutely negligible clogging.
· Maintenance is lower compared to baffle filters or mesh filters.
· Only oil collector needs to be cleaned periodically.
· Ideal for Indian cooking as it handles frying, tadka, and heavy oil usage better than mesh and baffle filters.
Reality Check:
· It still requires periodic servicing from professionals to maintain the health of the chimney
· It needs deep cleaning every 6-12 months.
· Can loose efficiency if oil or grease accumulates internally.
“Filterless” does not mean “Maintenance-free”.
IF you want to Save time and have a busy schedule and don’t want to go through the hassle of tedious cleaning of filters – Then filterless chimneys are best option for you as it does not demand extra time for cleaning, it has a sleek design to suit your modular setups and the most convenient option. So Yes, filterless chimneys are a great buy.
Although while looking for chimneys it is advisable to look at the suction power of the chimneys. As the filter type is important so is the suction power. For expert consultation, Contact us.
